The much-awaited FYJC (First Year Junior College) admission process in Maharashtra for the academic year 2025 hit an unexpected roadblock. On May 21, the very first day of registration, the centralized online admission portal crashed due to technical issues, leaving lakhs of students and parents frustrated and confused.

🚨 Why Were the FYJC Admissions Halted?

The crash occurred because the system was overwhelmed with an unprecedented surge in traffic. According to officials, over 1.5 million students tried to access the portal simultaneously across the state.

This year marked the first time the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) was extended statewide—beyond cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and others. While the move aimed at streamlining admissions and bringing transparency, the portal wasn't technically equipped to handle such massive traffic, resulting in its temporary suspension.

• Website crash: The admission site became unresponsive within an hour of launch.

• DigiLocker issues: The plan to fetch CBSE and ICSE marksheets through DigiLocker faced technical glitches.

• Rural connectivity: Students in remote and tribal areas, where internet access is weak or unavailable, struggled to participate in the online-only process.

• Verification hurdles: To avoid document fraud (as seen in past years), colleges are now verifying marksheets manually from CBSE/ICSE portals.

These problems led to strong demands from teachers' unions and parent bodies for the government to reconsider the online-only model and offer offline admission options for rural students.

After the system crash, the Maharashtra School Education and Sports Department announced a revised timetable for the FYJC admissions:
