Optics

 Optics

Introduction: In our daily life we are able to see various objects with our eyes. Have you ever thought about how our eye is able to perceive the things around us? The answer to this fact is Light. When light enter our retina after reflecting from any object, we are able to see the object. We are going to understand the formation of images in this topic.

Light is the most important factor that helps us to see. Since the earlier time, it has been a mystery what actually light is? Basically light is a form of energy that travels with or without the help of a medium from one place to another.

The nature of light and its study can be categorized as follows.

Reflection of light
Reflection of light

Ray Optics/ Geometrical Optics: The study of light considering light as energy moving in a particular direction from the source is called Ray optics or Geometrical optics. The phenomenon of Reflection, Refraction can be understood by considering light as a ray.

Wave optics / Physical optics: The study of light in the form of waves is called wave optics. Phenomenons such as polarization, interference, diffraction can be understood by the wave nature of light.

Particle nature of light: light in the form of a particle or matter is called particle nature of light. Phenomenons such as the photoelectric effect, Compton effect, spectral lines can be understood by the particle nature of light.
