Dispersion of Light

 Dispersion of Light

Introduction: White light act as a polychromatic source of light (Light of different frequency). Different frequencies of light have different wavelengths and different wavelengths of light refract at different angles when it changes their medium. This character gives rise to the dispersion of light. Let us understand it in detail.

Dispersion of light: The phenomenon of  separation of white light into its constituent color  after passing through a transparent material is called as Dispersion of light

Dispersion of light

1) Angular dispersion: The dispersion of light in which the emergent ray always travels in different directions is called Angular dispersion.

2) Linear Dispersion: The dispersion of light in which the emergent ray always travels parallel to each other is called Linear dispersion.
