Refractive Index
We have seen that when light travels from one medium to another medium, it bends. The extent to which it bends is given by the refractive index of a medium.
The refractive index of a medium can be classified as
1) Absolute refractive index the (𝝻): It is the ratio of the velocity of light in a vacuum to the velocity of light in a given medium.
Mathematically,
1) Relative refractive index the (𝝻): It is the ratio of the velocity of light in a vacuum to the velocity of light in a given medium.
Mathematically,
