Isochoric Process

Isochoric Process

It is a process which occurs when the volume of the system is constant(🛆V=0). The process in which Pressure and Temperature changes without any change in Volume is called as Isochoric process. Gay Lussac's  law describes the isochoric process well. According to Gay Lussac's law at constant volume, temperature of the system is directly proportional to pressure. When we cook rice in pressure cooker , the process is isobaric in nature. During isochoric process, Work done in isochoric process is always zero (W = 0)

Mathematical Expression for isobaric Process

let us consider a gas undergoing an isochoric process from initial state to final state.

From First law of thermodynamics we can write

Q = ðŸ›†U + W

But in Isochoric process W = 0

Q = ðŸ›†U---(1)

We know that

🛆U = nCv🛆T ---(2)

from (1) and (2)

Q = nCv🛆T
